Inpatient rehab counselors dont really wonder why we have a drug problem, they know. New drugs are being invented each and every day with billons of dollars passing through hands back and forth only to leave bodies scattered. Regional shift in drug abuse trends have shown promise in some areas, like methamphetamine abuse and addiction treatment being on the decline, while some regions are experiencing dramatic increases in others.

Inpatient drug rehabs centers throughout the country are seeing significant increases in prescription drug addiction treatment admissions and new designer drugs sold as bath salts. Bath salts can be purchased over the counter in most head shops that sell smoking accessories and incense.

While these drugs are legal they are wreaking havoc with side effects from paranoia and hallucinations to overdose and death. Many health professionals cannot get a grip on the root causes of the rise in drug abuse in  these areas, when it clear to the drug rehab and treatment counselors associated with Inpatient Drug Rehab. The overall outlook on all drugs is that some are medicines, even drug stores and commercials markets drugs as "medicines" that are needed.

While it is true sometimes drugs are neccesary, to the degree they are marketed direct to the consumer is the degree we have substance abuse and addiction problems. Youngester cannot discern one drug from another thereby realizing the inherent dangers contain in their abuse. So when approached with something prescribed by a doctor or packaged in very interesting container next to cash register, poor and uninformed decisions are made.

An estimated 7000 kids a day experiment with prescription drugs with an approximate 20% predicted to develope a substance abuse or addiction problem. Substance abuse treatment counselor's have a hard time keeping their purposes when faced with numbers such as these.

Drug Rehabs see rise in Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment

Posted by Rehab Editor in prescription drug addictioninpatient rehabinpatient drug rehabilitation

Over the last 15 years inpatient drug rehabilitation programs throughout the United States have experienced a dramatic increases in prescription drug addiction across the board. The movement started in the mid- nineties with the development of new prescription pain pills, specifically OxyContin in 1996 and the subsequent marketing efforts involved.

Pharmaceutical companies developed a wave of dissemination like none other, employing models, cheerleaders and other sports figures as sales reps. Doctors were influenced via monetary coercion and outright misleading information about the drugs they were asked to push.  Addicts began the downward spiral with many deaths as a result. Florida drug rehabilitation programs are overflowing as Florida has the number one prescription drug problem in the U.S.

The next wave of prescription drugs pushed on American society were anti-depressants or psychotropic drugs marketed to handle depression and anxiety issues all too common with alcohol and drug addiction. Without doubt these drugs are dangerous and mind altaring marketed as a means to handle the obvious symptoms associated with some kind of underlying problem.

People do experience unwanted feelings in life. These people while simply looking for solutions are vulnerable to deceptive marketing practices. With pharmaceutical companies making billions from the sale of these drugs, and able to absorb lawsuits in the hundreds of millions, only those using common sense will not be victimized. The onslaught of deceptive marketing practices and exploitation of the uninformed will continue. Just look around inpatient rehabs are full of people looking for honest answers and help.

Drug Education is key to drug war

An education on drugs and addiction is without a doubt badly needed. With truthful information. I recently read an article telling about a three star general prescribed powerfully addictive prescription pain killers, becoming addicted and almost ruining his life. He had no idea how the drugs worked or how he could possible become addicted. Another story I read in the Huffington Post telling of a young mother suffering addiction to methamphetamine killing her newborn baby by breastfeeding and passing on the powerful toxins to the baby.

What can we do? We have to take the fundamental approach to educating people from the top down about what physiological changes happen in the body causing one to become addicted and how it works. Prescription drugs are as dangerous, if not more so than street drugs. You should be aware however, many prescriptions that are illegal are still prescribed in various forms and even given to kids. Dexedrine for instance is methamphetamine and prescribed to kids for ADHD.

What do we do about it? People that profit from sale of drugs need to take responsiblity to the negative consequences. I am speaking of pharmaceutical companies. Methamphetamine would not exist if not invented by BIG PHARMA and exploited by those that profit in Western medicine. Billions of dollars are made each year and what's even more astonishing is that many inpatient drug rehabs  prescribe even more addictive drugs in the rehabilitation program.

We have to take a stance. Many addicts desperately needing addiction treatment  never suspect the addictive qualities of the drugs given and are not fully informed at the time the drugs are given. Yes we have a responsibility for our own well being, but so do the manufacturers of those same drugs, if they truly cared about our well being full disclosure would occur.

None of us are immune to drug addiction or alcoholism, although cureable the devastation and death that result could be avoided if truthful information was provided to the public about these dangerous toxins. Due yourself a huge favor and get educated about all of effects of any drugs you are taking both legal and illegal.
